Groups

Our efforts are focused at serving schools, Elderhostel groups, commercial groups and other educational groups on site. Reserve in advance by contacting us.

On site interpretive signs

The site uses a network of seven historic painting reproductions on a loop trail to give visitors an appreciation of garrison life in the Fort's heyday.

Teachers and Students

Step back in time to the 18th century and discover an era when England and France were caught up in a tug-of-war for supremacy in Acadia.

Your group will be greeted by an experienced, bilingual,site interpreter who will lead you on an animated and engaging tour that begins in the Visitor Reception Centre. Inside the centre, the tour begins with an exhibit tracing the Fort's history and includes a model of the fort and a video on the 1755 siege. The different cultural groups that lived in this region during both the French and British occupations will be introduced, including the Acadians and the subsequent deportations after the siege. You will also learn about the development and creation of the site and the work and important role of John Clarence Webster.

Outside, the group will proceed to the fort's ruins, observing the interpretive signs and the wonderful views en route. Your interpreter will introduce the fort's physical structures and configuration (star shape), which will help familiarize the students with 18th-century military vocabulary. You will learn about the everyday lives of the people who lived in and around the fort. You may even encounter someone from the past who played an important role in the fort's history!

Teachers

Allow at least an hour to an hour and a half for a complete tour. Reserve in advance by calling or e-mailing the site in order for us to best accommodate your group.

How to reach us?

You may even wish to consider spending a half-day at the site. Come for a morning tour, bring your lunch and picnic on the grounds, giving your group the opportunity to relax and appreciate this special historic place with its broad expanse of grassy slopes and panoramic views of the Tantramar marshes and the surrounding countryside.

Note

The site has sheltered picnic facilities. We suggest warm clothing as it can be cool and breezy at times.
