Peterborough, Ontario, May 31, 2019 – Over the winter months, Parks Canada has been working toward the planning, design, and implementation of major construction works along the Trent-Severn Waterway. As a result of this work and to ensure the safety of visitors, changes to grounds access and mooring availability have been put into effect at some sites. To make the most of their Parks Canada experience, boaters and all other visitors are encouraged to plan their trip in advance.

This work is a part of an ongoing federal infrastructure investment totaling over $615 million. The investment in infrastructure helps Parks Canada to deliver on priorities for the Trent-Severn Waterway:

• Mitigating flood risks to protect people and property;
• Protecting heritage structures and landscapes;
• Operating the Trent-Severn Waterway as a uniquely Canadian destinations for visitors, in support of opportunities for local communities

Site service information will be updated throughout the season as required. Public safety is a priority for Parks Canada. Visitors are asked to obey signage and the instructions of lock staff at all times. The repair and replacement of infrastructure on the Trent-Severn Waterway is part of the federal government’s unprecedented $3 billion investment in Parks Canada’s places over five years to support infrastructure work to heritage, visitor, waterway, and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas across Canada. These investments represent the largest federal infrastructure plan in the history of Parks Canada.
