Parks Canada is advising the public that the Trent-Severn Waterway’s 44 lockstations located between Trenton and Port Severn will close for the season on October 14, 2019, following the Thanksgiving long weekend. 

Parks Canada encourages the public to use caution in and around the waterway structures and channels over the winter months. From mid-October to the end of May, lockstations will be closed and the use of the waterway will be at one’s own risk. Unmarked hazards may exist. Wet leaves, ice, and snow may remain on stairs and walkways, and ice conditions on the waterway can vary. Boaters are advised that during the non-navigation season, aids to navigation may be missing, off-station, or inoperable until next spring. 

Water levels will be decreased throughout the Haliburton Lakes area as per the drawdown forecast that can be found on the Trent-Severn Waterway Water Management InfoNet: 

As well as the drawdown forecast, the InfoNet also contains background information on:

• water management practices
• water management updates
• frequently asked questions about water management
• various reports on water management
• most recent water levels of lakes along the Trent-Severn Waterway 

Of specific note is the water levels tool within the InfoNet which provides lake levels data from the last 30 days and graphic representation of levels for the current year. The information comes from hydrometric gauges located at key points along both waterways and is vetted by trained and experienced Parks Canada water management staff. 

This information is intended as supplemental information only. Stakeholders should continue to refer to their respective Conservation Authority or the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry as the primary source for relevant flood forecasting information specific to their area.
