Learn-to Winter
Lachine Canal National Historic Site
For the fourth year, the Parks Canada team welcomes you to Hangar 1825 on the Lachine Canal for an introduction to winter outdoor activities. Animation and a Learn-To cross-country skiing workshop is offered for children aged 4 to 12. During your children's workshop, snowshoes, oversized-tire bikes and cross-country skis are also available for loan, so you too can discover winter outdoor sports.
Here are some great family activities to do in Montreal during Spring Break!
Learn-To Cross-Country Skiing
Children aged 4 to 12 can enjoy an introduction to cross-country skiing with Parks Canada teams at their side. They will learn the basic skills of cross-country skiing, as well as how to choose the right equipment. It's the perfect way to get outside and enjoy the winter season! The boots and skis needed for this activity will be loaned to participants (included in the booking fee).
Schedule
In order to offer learning adapted to children's abilities, fixed time slots are reserved for specific age groups.
Spring Break: March 1 to 9, 2025.
Prices and booking
$10 per child aged 4 to 12, equipment included.
Please note that a $3.50 will be added to your transaction.
To take part in the activity, you must reserve your place on the Parks Canada reservations site.

How to dress for winter activities
For an enjoyable experience, wear appropriate winter clothing for the outdoors and weather conditions. In addition to a winter coat and snow pants, choose wool or polyester clothing. Remember that you will be warm during the activity. Here are some of the items you should wear:
- Good dry socks (bring an extra pair and change socks before the activity)
- Multi-layered basic clothing
- A neck warmer
- A toque
- Gloves or mittens
- Sunglasses, as needed and depending on the weather
For fat biking, we recommend:
- A hat without a pompom that allows you to put on a bicycle helmet
- Warm boots that are soft and comfortable
- Five-finger gloves to facilitate braking and gear changes
Please note that you can use your own bike helmet for the activity.
Have fun!
