The Lachine Canal 1860-1950 riding the waves of industrial and urban development
This is the first illustrated book for general readers about the history of the canal. Written by Parks Canada historians Yvon Desloges and Alain Gelly, the book is published by Éditions Septentrion.
This album, which includes more than 150 period photographies, is not intended to be a lavish visual work. It is designed quite simply to bear witness to the main features of the history of the Lachine Canal, starting with its construction, continuing on with the growth in shipping and the development of factories along its banks, and ending with the people whose lives intertwined with the waterway on a daily basis.
The book is available at the various points of sale along the canal (Fur Trade at Lachine, Lachine Visitor Services Centre, Atwater Market service pavilion) or from bookstores. Contact us for further information.
