Chilkoot Trail Artist Residency: Program Update
The Chilkoot Trail Artist Residency Program represents a creative journey through Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, Alaska, and Chilkoot Trail National Historic Site, British Columbia.
From 2010 through 2019, 26 artists hiked the trail over two-week periods, creating art and inspiring visitors. The artists offered workshops at campgrounds and interacted with hikers in creative ways. Parks Canada partnered with the Yukon Arts Centre, U.S. National Park Service, and the Skagway Arts Council to facilitate this unique program.
In 2020, due to COVID-19, the program partners made the difficult decision to suspend the Chilkoot Trail Artist Residency Program indefinitely. The program partners will look for future opportunities to continue the residency.
