Shirley Lake Trail

Elk Island National Park

Shirley Lake is named after the daughter of Dr. Love, an early park superintendent. Numerous shallow lakes and ponds along the trail make it ideal for observing nesting waterfowl. The trail also passes through meadows where the elusive elk can occasionally be spotted, particularly at dawn and dusk.

Length: 11.6 km
Time: 3 to 4 hours

Level of Difficulty: Moderate terrain Moderate

Significant Features: Aspen forest and meadows. Good for viewing plains bison, moose and elk.

Trailhead: Accessible from the Tawayik Trail parking lot.
