Cruise through an ocean teeming with wildlife
Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, National Marine Conservation Area Reserve, and Haida Heritage Site
Humpbacks breach, dolphins ride bow waves and sea lions bark from rocky outposts. While puffins fly low over the water, giant sea stars and anemones glow neon in the shallows.
Drop anchor in a secluded cove and savour an island to yourself, exploring lush landscapes beneath towering old growth Sitka spruce and cedar. Meet Watchmen at SGang Gwaay (Anthony Island) UNESCO World Heritage Site where carved creatures peer from rare standing poles and learn about Haida culture alongside the massive mossy remains of longhouses.
Bring your own boat, rent a kayak or join a tour, setting off from Moresby Camp and following sheltered channels. Mind the tides and follow the markers in this remote region with no roads, stores and few navigational aids. Be flexible and prepared. And take the time to watch orcas passing through and humpback whales feeding, often in vast pods numbering in the hundreds.
