Who Am I?
Can you guess who is talking based on the clues provided?
- I am the largest member of the deer family. I am a herbivore, and love eating pond grasses, young trees, and shrubs. Cape Breton Highlands National Park is one place you may see me.

- I have a large broad tail that I slap on the water if I am startled. I have strong front teeth that I use to cut trees and plants. My home is called a lodge.

- I am a large marine mammal. I breathe air regularly but spend most of my time underwater. Watching for me is a common activity in Cape Breton.

- I can be found in my nest which is usually up high in a tree or on the side of a cliff. I have a large hooked beak and a white head. Fish is my favourite food.

- I live in both fresh and salt water. I eat crustaceans and small fish. I travel all around the world. My species population is decreasing.

- I can grow up to 18 metres tall. Moose like to chew on me. I often visit people’s homes during the Holiday season. I have cones and needles.

Find a tree and create some art
What you will need:
- Blank sheet of white paper or even fabric
- Crayons
- Masking tape
Instructions:
- Take your piece of paper or fabric, and tape it to the trunk of any tree
- Take your crayon (best to hold it sideways), and rub the crayon against the paper
- After doing this the pattern of the bark will be on your paper
If you want, you can use different colours, and you can also draw a picture on the paper beforehand and use the rubbing to colour it in!
Find out how water travels to a leaf
What you will need:
- Water
- Container for water
- Leaf from a tree (stem attached)
- Food colouring (red or blue)
Instructions:
- Put water in a cup/container and add a few drops of food colouring.
- Place the stem of the leaf in the water.
- Over several days, watch and record the results.
The colour from the water will spread to the leaf, demonstrating how water nourishes leaves.
