How to get here

Quttinirpaaq National Park

Resolute Bay, Nunavut, is the launching point for trips into Quttinirpaaq National Park. Currently, Canadian North offers regular flight service to Resolute Bay from Iqaluit and flies to Iqaluit through Ottawa, Montreal and Yellowknife.

Getting to Quttinirpaaq from Resolute Bay

The park can be accessed by chartered aircraft on a Twin Otter from Resolute Bay. A return flight from Resolute Bay to Tanquary Fiord costs about $70,000, depending on the price of fuel. Other locations in the park have additional fees. Twin Otters can carry eight to nine people and up to 1200 kilograms, so it is most economical to coordinate with other travellers. Park staff may be able to help you coordinate your flights.

Kenn Borek Air offers charters directly from Resolute Bay to the park. Charter companies are very busy during the summer and their availability will vary. Make your travel arrangements well in advance.

Transportation to the park can also be arranged through a licensed tour operator.

Top of the World charter

Parks Canada offers a charter flight each July, at a reduced cost, as part of our Top of the World experience.

The Top of the World charter program will not be offered in 2025. Contact the Parks Canada office in Iqaluit for more information.

Getting to Grise Fiord

You may wish to make a side trip to the picturesque community of Grise Fiord (Ausuittuq - "the place that never melts"), Canada's most northerly community with a population of around 150. It is about 360 km northeast of Resolute Bay on the southern shore of Ellesmere Island. Arrangements for accommodations and outfitting services can be made through the Grise Fiord Inuit Co-operative at 867-980-9917. Kenn Borek Air provides air service between Resolute Bay and Grise Fiord.

Cruise Ships

A recent innovation in High Arctic tourism has been the advent of icebreaking cruise ships. Among other destinations, the cruise ships sometimes stop for a brief visit to Quttinirpaaq. Contact the Parks Canada office in Iqaluit for details.

If you are shipping supplies from an international location, please at least an additional allow 4-6 weeks for these items to clear customs on top of the normal shipping time.

Weather conditions in the north may dictate your travel schedule. Be flexible enough to allow for lengthy delays in your plans.
