Bill C-18 receives Royal Assent
Rouge National Urban Park
On June 19, Bill C-18 received Royal Assent. Bill C-18 amends the Rouge National Urban Park Act, allowing for stronger ecological protections for Rouge National Urban Park while also providing more long-term certainty for park farmers. The amendments ensure the Rouge Valley will have the strongest ecological protections in its history, while affirming the role of park farmers so that they can continue to provide food for Canadians as they have been doing for the past two centuries
This week’s milestone would not have been possible without considerable collaboration between the federal, provincial and municipal governments, and the more than 200 organizations and 20,000 Canadians – including Indigenous Peoples, park farmers, and conservation groups – who have engaged with Parks Canada on the creation of Rouge National Urban Park since 2012.
