Twyn Rivers Day Use Area in Rouge National Urban Park to close for improvements to parking, accessibility and public safety

Parks Canada is committed to preserving both the natural and cultural heritage of our special places, while ensuring safe, high-quality experiences for our visitors. Effective July 10, 2022, and continuing through the summer and fall months, the Twyn Rivers day-use and parking area, located at 55 Twyn Rivers Drive, will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians to accommodate work to improve access and public safety. 

The Twyn Rivers project will comprise the following: 

• The renewal of the parking area
• Construction of a permanent washroom facility
• Enhancements to the picnic and day-use area
• Construction of two new pedestrian bridges over the Little Rouge River
• The construction of a new trail connection
• The installation of a controlled pedestrian cross-walk in collaboration with the City of Toronto

This work will contribute to a safer, more accessible, and enjoyable hiking experience by improving infrastructure, including a new paved parking area, and eliminating dangerous on-road trail sections and crossings.

Throughout the construction period, every effort will be made to keep trails open, however, temporary trail closures can be expected as bridge and trail components are built. Visitors can access Vista and Orchard trails from the Zoo Road Day Use Area. Please use public transit as parking is extremely limited. Mast Trail can be accessed from the Mast Trail parking area at Glen Rouge Campground. Note that Glen Rouge Campground is closed until further notice.

Please consider exploring and hiking alternate trails in the area. Alternatively, Parks Canada suggests hiking other, less busy trails in Rouge National Urban Park. For a complete list of trails, visit the hiking page on the Rouge National Urban Park website.

Visitor and worker safety is a top priority for Parks Canada. Visitors should note that it is illegal to park on Twyn Rivers Drive; ticketing and towing of illegally parked vehicles will be enforced diligently as this poses a significant risk to public safety. Visitors are asked to respect all on-site signage and reduce speeds near construction zones. If possible, please avoid the Twyn Rivers area as the parking lot will be closed to vehicles and foot traffic, and construction vehicles will be moving in and out of the area.
