City of Pickering transfers land to Parks Canada for Rouge National Urban Park

May 4, 2018

Rouge National Urban Park – a first of its kind in Canada – continues to grow.

Today, the Government of Canada and the City of Pickering announced that the City of Pickering has transferred 10 parcels of land totaling 8.22 hectares (20.3 acres) to Parks Canada to help complete Rouge National Urban Park.

The lands being transferred today were initially committed to Parks Canada in 2014 by the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and area municipalities, including the City of Pickering.

Rouge National Urban Park protects nature, culture, and agriculture in an integrated way, and stretches from Lake Ontario to the Oak Ridges Moraine across the cities of Toronto, Markham, and Pickering and the Township of Uxbridge.
