Climate change
Parks Canada's report on conservation from 2018 to 2023
Parks Canada is engaged in climate-smart conservation — intentionally and deliberately considering climate change in management actions, and assessing and adapting for the future. Across the country, Parks Canada is setting forward-looking goals and developing strategies linked to key climate change risks, impacts and vulnerabilities.
By working with nature, we can reduce the effects of climate change on our communities and our environment, and be better positioned to adapt to change. Protected areas provide a natural solution to help buffer the effects of climate change by:
- conserving biodiversity
- providing ecosystem services like clean water and air
- connecting landscapes for species to move, migrate and adapt
- capturing and storing carbon
- supporting knowledge building as living laboratories
- inspiring hope for the future
