Learn-to Fish
Fishing is a simple, accessible and fun family activity that requires little knowledge. Parks Canada, in partnership with the Fondation de la faune du Québec (french only), is offering introductory fishing sessions for kids and teens aged 6 to 17 on the banks of some of Quebec historic canals.

Activity details
During this activity where the basics of fishing will be explained, the children will also learn:
- fish biology;
- setting up a fishing line;
- angler ethics;
- sport fishing safety;
- Quebec fishing regulations.
Before the 45-minute practice fishing period, participants will be given a demonstration of fishing techniques such as light casting, hooking and reeling in a fish.
Equipment Provided
- Fishing equipment such as a rod and bait
- A fishing permit valid until they reach age 18 will be given to each participant at the end of the activity
- Personal flotation device

Accompanying adults wishing to fish must bring their own equipment and make sure they have a valid fishing licence.
Important information
- Please arrive 15 minutes before the activity starts.
- Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
- Wear weather-appropriate clothing.
- You must bring your own water bottle, hat, sunscreen and snacks.
- Restrooms, refreshment stands and picnic tables are available nearby.
- Attention cyclists: bike racks are available for participants; bring your own lock.
- The activity is not recommended for people who are afraid of water.
- The activity is not suitable for people with reduced mobility.
- Animals are not allowed.
