Halifax Citadel National Historic Site
Parks Canada is pleased to offer a selection of educational programs at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site.
Taking a hands-on approach, each program has been developed to match an array of social studies curriculum and also to be exciting and entertaining.
Programs suit the interests and curriculum needs of grades primary through grade 9. A variant program is also available for high schools. Additional programs can be developed to meet specific requirements. Contact us for more information.
School programs are available from May 7 to October 31.
Expedition Citadel
For schools seeking a longer-duration, more in-depth visit, this interactive program includes a two-hour guided experience plus free time.
Content varies somewhat for grade level. Please specify Level 1 (Grades Primary to 3), Level 2 (Grades 4 and 5), or Level 3 (Grades 7 to 9).

Citadel School Tour
For schools seeking a concise program, this basic guided tour with a private tour guide lasts one hour, plus free time.
For all grade levels.

Self-guided school visit
For schools seeking a self-guided visit at their own pace, with no enhanced programming or guide.
Xplorer booklets available for children aged 6-12 (please inquire).
Pre-booking required to manage numbers.
Cost: Free – please note the free public tour of the Halifax Citadel is not available to school groups doing a self-guided visit.

Teachers receive complimentary entry.
Chaperones receive complimentary entry based on 5:1 ratio (kids:chaperones).
