Community Update: Repairs for Clegg Street section out to tender

Rideau Canal National Historic Site

Rideau Canal walls near Clegg Street

July 29, 2019 – The contract to repair a portion of the Rideau Canal walls along Colonel By Drive at Clegg Street is now out to tender.

Scheduled to begin in fall 2019, repairs will be completed on 57 metres of the top portion of the canal wall, as well as the eastern pathway. In order to complete this work, a pedestrian detour route will be in place. Additionally, citizens can expect intermittent traffic interruptions and single lane closures. More details will be provided as we near the project. This project is expected to be completed in spring 2020.

The rehabilitation of the Rideau Canal walls in downtown Ottawa is part of Parks Canada’s unprecedented $3 billion dollar investment over 5 years to support infrastructure work to heritage, visitor, waterway and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas across Canada. These historic investments will mitigate health and safety risks, halt the loss of nationally significant built heritage and stimulate the economy in communities across the country.
