Info-Work: Port Severn Dam “G” Construction to Begin Lane Reduction on Port Severn Road North

Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site

May 28, 2020, Peterborough, ON – Parks Canada would like to advise that work on Port Severn Dam G, also known as Little Chute Dam, on Port Severn Road North is set to begin. This work is part of ongoing infrastructure improvements along the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site.

Contractors will be on site June 9, 2020 for site preparation and project layout. A lane reduction of Port Severn Road North is expected to begin the week of June 15, between Highway 400 and Port Severn Lock 45. Signs advising oncoming traffic will be installed prior to the lane reduction and will remain in place for the duration of construction.

The rehabilitation is scheduled to begin this July as part of the main dam tender. The scope of work includes replacing portions of the approach walls, refacing and extending abutments, new safety railings, new booms and full replacement of the dam deck. The replacement of the Port Severn Area Dams is part of the Government of Canada’s Federal Infrastructure Investment program. Parks Canada is leading this important infrastructure work to ensure safe, high-quality experiences for visitors by improving heritage, visitor, waterway, and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas, including along the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site.
