Bird watching
Batoche National Historic Site
Meander the trails above the South Saskatchewan River, a place where ecosystems come together seamlessly, providing excellent opportunities to look above at soaring raptors, below at elegant shore birds and hear the songbirds of the aspen parkland in between.
Lush parkland habitat provides the perfect setting for both migrating and year round species allowing plentiful opportunities for sightings, not to mention the excellent views! Both the lookout gazebo near the end of the boardwalk and the new East Village lookout tower are great structured options to set up a scouting position. Alternatively, by choosing your own lookout locations, you might just be serenaded by feathered singers like the warblers and meadowlarks or spot colourful characters like the magpies and orioles, anywhere from the dock down by the river, to the red chairs and Caron Home overlooking the river valley.
Pack a picnic to complete a wonderful afternoon of this soothing past time.
Speak with the staff if there are some specific birds or habitat you are interested in investigating.
