West Coast Trail Unit
Pacific Rim National Park Reserve
Due to the increase in reports of human-wildlife interactions on the West Coast Trail, Parks Canada strongly recommends that a minimum of one person per group carry bear spray and know how to use it. More information.
West Coast Trail
The West Coast Trail is a famous multi-day backpacking trail in the backcountry that even experienced hikers find challenging.
Balaats’adt (Nitinaht Village) Trailhead
The West Coast Trail can be intimidating. A mid-point entrance at Nitinaht Narrows allows hikers to tackle a shorter portion.
Cape Beale Headlands
Cape Beale Headlands provide a chance for visitors to sample the same terrain as the 75 km West Coast Trail.
Embark on your backcountry adventure! The West Coast Trail Unit of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve stretches along the western edge of Vancouver Island, connecting the communities of Bamfield, Anacala, Balaats’adt (Nitinaht Village), Lake Cowichan, Jordan River, Port Renfrew, and Sooke. This trail winds through the traditional lands of the Huu-ay-aht, Ditidaht, and Pacheedaht First Nations.
Within the national park reserve, you'll find stunning features like the Cape Beale Headlands, Nitinaht Triangle, and the narrow path of the West Coast Trail itself, surrounded by ancient coastal forests. It's a great place to enjoy nature's beauty!
