Sable Island National Park Reserve
Sable Island's unique topography and dune system owe their existence to the sand-anchoring properties of vegetation including heath-type vegetation, sandwort, and marram grass. There are no native trees on Sable Island.

Grassland and heath are the two major vegetation communities on Sable Island.

There are no native trees or shrubs on Sable Island. Up until recently there was one lone Scots pine, planted in the 1970s.
