Rattlesnake Ramble

Grasslands National Park

West Block – Meet at the Coulee Centre in the Frenchman Valley Campground

October 11 and 12, 2024
12:30 pm to 5:00 pm

Let’s get ready to Rumble…Ramble…and Rattle!

Join our knowledgeable team of experts as you journey to the native habitat of one of the prairies’ most notorious and misunderstood species – the Prairie Rattlesnake!

You and eleven others will be guided by park staff to a remote overwintering site used by multiple snake species. Spend time with a herpetologist (reptile specialist) to learn and search for the Prairie Rattlesnake as well as other reptiles that inhabit Grasslands National Park.

Visitors wearing backpacks and snake gaiters follow a Parks Canada staff member.

Be prepared to hike 7 km round trip where you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the various grasslands habitats that prairie reptiles use over the course of the year and learn about the natural history of the grasslands.

Meeting a snake specialist for a “behind the scenes” tour of a snake den and learning about the challenges that snakes face for survival will be highlights.
