Prince Albert National Park
Prince Albert National park lies within a natural transition zone between the boreal forest and aspen parkland, and contains the largest protected area of southern boreal mixed wood forest in western Canada. Within the park are a variety of forest types, ranging from coniferous stands to aspen forest, each supporting unique plants and animals. To ensure the ecological stability and health of the forests, five important ecological indicators are monitored:
- Bird diversity and abundance
- Forest area burned
- Mammal diversity and abundance
- Forest vegetation community aerial survey
- Plant growth: Primary productivity
