Getting here

Vuntut National Park has no established access routes, designated landing areas or facilities. Access by land, water and air is possible, but a trip requires careful planning and independent travel skills.

Planning a trip to Vuntut National Park is part of the adventure. Your adventure begins by working with Parks Canada, local businesses and regional air charter companies to help you realize your true Arctic wilderness experience.

The closest community to the park is Old Crow, situated along the Porcupine River. Vuntut National Park is approximately 50 km by air or 190 km by river north of Old Crow. There are no facilities or services of any kind in the park. Travelers must be entirely self-sufficient and able to handle any medical or wildlife related emergency on their own. The Parks Canada office in Old Crow is situated in the John Tizya Centre.

With a population of 300, Old Crow is a true northern community relying on the land for the majority of its sustenance. It is known for its friendliness and is recognized as a destination for wilderness travel. It is both the most northerly and the most isolated community in the Yukon. The closest road, the Dempster highway, is about 175 km away and as a result most people fly to Old Crow. There is scheduled air service to Old Crow from Whitehorse and Dawson City in the Yukon and Inuvik in the Northwest Territories.
