Info-Work: Hamlet Fixed and Swing Bridge

Peterborough, Ontario, May 14 2020 –Parks Canada would like to advise that the Hamlet Fixed and Swing Bridge, along the Trent-Severn Waterway, re-opened this week to vehicular traffic. While the bridge is open for use, the public can expect short, intermittent delays in the coming weeks as contractors complete operational testing. Bridge swings will be conducted as a part of testing the Hamlet Swing Bridge.

These tests will occur in the coming weeks with or without boat traffic and will be similar in length to bridge swings that happen as part of the canal’s operating season, with longer delays only if adjustments to the bridge are required. Touch up painting of the lower sections of the trusses and cleaning of the hydraulic lines is expected to be completed while bridge is open to vehicular traffic.

Parks Canada appreciates the patience from the travelling public and apologizes for the inconvenience of these intermittent vehicular traffic delays.

The replacement of the Hamlet Fixed and Swing Bridge is part of the Government of Canada’s Federal Infrastructure Investment program. Parks Canada is leading this important infrastructure work to ensure safe, high-quality experiences for visitors by improving heritage, visitor, waterway, and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas, including along the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site.
