Info-Work Inspections and Sampling to take place at Hamlet Swing Bridge

Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site

Friday, October 28, 2016 (Peterborough, ON) – Core sampling, and structural and mechanical inspections will be conducted at the Hamlet Swing Bridge on the Severn River over several days in November.

The Hamlet Swing Bridge is located at 1941 Peninsula Point Road, between the Townships of Severn and Gravenhurst. Motorists are asked to plan their routes accordingly.

November 1st – 4th: closure between the hours of 9 A.M. and 3 P.M.

November 21st – 25th: core sampling work that will result in short traffic delays. Flag staff will be on-site to direct traffic.

Mid-November: additional inspection that will not impact the use of the bridge.

Funding to either replace or rehabilitate this bridge was announced in June 2015. These inspections will help to determine the scope of construction work and how the project proceeds.

The construction period for this bridge is tentatively scheduled for the non-navigation season of 2017/18. More details will be shared when the design work is complete and a construction contractor is hired.
