Wildlife watching
Elk Island National Park
Elk Island National Park boasts some of North America’s best wildlife viewing. Come in the spring to hear a chorus of birdsong in our forests from dozens of different species, along with little red bison calves speckling the grassy meadows. To improve chances of catching a glimpse of bison, elk, birds, or other amazing animals in the park visit at dawn and dusk, times of day that may provide a better chance of sighting wildlife. Many animals shelter in the trees during the warmest parts of the day.
Review wildlife safety tips before each visit.
Be Bison Wise
Bison are wild animals. Even though they look docile they are dangerous, unpredictable, and may charge without warning. Visitors have a responsibility to be informed and to explore the park in ways that ensure both visitor and wildlife are safe. Please view bison safely and follow these simple tips.
