Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, National Marine Conservation Area Reserve, and Haida Heritage Site
Protecting cultural resources is part of Parks Canada’s mandate and the protection of and respect towards cultural heritage is one of Gwaii Haanas’ key management goals.
Haida village sites, with their iconic standing poles and house posts, as well as historic mining and cannery sites are all examples of the diverse cultural history of Gwaii Haanas.
Much of the work in the cultural resource management program helps sustain the continuity of the Haida culture by supporting Haida efforts to protect and present their culture.
