Grey Owl Trail

The Writer, the Prospector and the Queen
In 1931 Grey Owl was appointed “caretaker of the animals” for the park. His writing and tours about conservation inspired the world. His wife Anahareo was a prospector and encouraged Grey Owl to share stories about his beloved wilderness. Jellyroll was “Queen of the Beaver People”. Tourists flocked to the cabin to see this famous pet beaver.
Hiking and biking option: Follow the trail to the right of the Kingsmere River.
Boating option: Take the rail portage along the Kingsmere River then paddle east along Kingsmere Lake.
Length: 19.9 km One way
Time: 10 - 12 hours
Level of Difficulty: Difficult, some steep sections.
Significant Features: Experience the diversity of the boreal forest as you follow the eastern shore around Kingsmere Lake.
Trailhead: 32.5km down the Kingsmere Road.
