Manoir Papineau National Historic Site

Introduce students of different grade levels to educational programs and activities to be held on site or in the classroom.

These programs bring social sciences concepts to life in a stimulating learning environment.

On-site activity

“A trip to Montebello” guided tour

Un guide de Parcs Canada accueille le public à l'entrée du Manoir-Papineau

Suggested content: students will learn more about the magnificent Manoir of Louis-Joseph Papineau, an important political figure in the 19th century, and about the evolution of various modes of transportation during this pivotal era.

First part of the visit (length: 45 minutes)

  • Interior and exterior exploration of the manor to discover bourgeois life, culture, fashions and the art of “etiquette”

Second part of the visit (length: 45 minutes)

  • Group games to discover the various modes of transportation and the importance of the Ottawa River, an essential waterway that was vital to life in the 19th century

Target groups: grades 3 to 6 of elementary school, and high school (this tour can be adapted for high school students)

Languages: English and French

Length of visit: 90 minutes in total (including two 45-minute parts)

Location: 500A, Notre-Dame Street, Montebello (Quebec) J0V 1L0

Period: May to June and September to October
