Obadjiwan–Fort Témiscamingue National Historic Site

Introduce students of different grade levels to educational programs and activities to be held on site or in the classroom.

These programs bring social sciences concepts to life in a stimulating learning environment.

On site activity

Suggested content: students will experience the history of this former trading post through a colourful adventurer who will take them back in time to the fur trade.

  • Outdoor and indoor guided tour
  • Introduction to the development of the fur trade and its economic rivalries
  • Presentation of the usefulness and handling of certain trade items
  • Presentation of the tasks of the voyageurs and the fort's inhabitants (their respective trades)
  • Description of the differences between furs
  • Overview of the components of a birchbark canoe

Target groups: grades 3 to 6 of elementary school, and high school

Languages: English and French

Durée : 2 heures

Length of visit: 834, chemin du Vieux-Fort, Duhamel-Ouest (Québec) J9V 1N7

Period: June and September
